His Flight

Dear diary...finding a blue
towel lying under a woodland
tree with a crawl space for
animals, didn't make any
sense to me, but I took the
photo on 23rd August 2022,
because it felt mysterious,
so I just had to write this
poem in memory of
International Fairy Day on
Monday 24th June 2024.
What made him swim in
dangerous lake just to keep
cool? Was he hypnotized by
strange lights...had he
wandered to deeply getting lost
in still of night: leaving cold air
behind, straying into some dark
precarious crevasse to sleep?
Quivers wavering across fleshy
skin, hairs undulating craving
answers. Had he gazed upon
translucent swiftness of
lacewing's willowy limbs with
infinite vitality?
Mysterious strangeness must
have metamorphoses;
suddenly distracting flow, sight
leaving feelings with visions of
sprites; figures perched on
boughs, so striking to this
whimsical curiosity.
Did he fall asleep under a tree?
Blueness of towel mocks like it
doesn't belong, leaving mind
knotty like wild ivy...so very
verdant,
creeping bewilderingly in
puzzled reasoning. Was it
something eaten that through
this wooded transformation
was fluctuating – alternating
with the seasons?
Gathering up his desires, did
leaving nature as he found it
allow him a sense of renewal?
With compassion and kindness
searching, yet shrouded to the
untrained eye.
Full moon still meanders
behind clouds, championing
the night – yet curiously can't
resist briefly peeking the
secrets of daylight hours.
As for my own discovery, there
was mystery reached; speaking
softly, reflected in imprints of a
childlike imagination, suddenly
young; not quite an infant. For
as life progresses there's tiny
secret footprints across leafy
glade of my world, setting
visions of wonder.
A mind of whimsical faeries in
Hawthorn burrows undertaking
all manner you want to believe
in. I could see the honeysuckle;
inhale perfumed sweet air
softly filling my senses with
enigmatic thoughts.
I wondered! Could this lad find
his way back, wake and be that
which he was? Yet hearing a
beautiful voice calling, I knew
the boy had been caught in a
spell, I was convinced he'd
been carried off.
Photo is my own.

Mystery
Oh I love it when I come across a mystery while I'm walking through deserted places. And isn't it always the work of the faerie folk? They're capable of anything, particularly sending our minds off in wild directions. When my Nan was alive. if anything happened that couldn't be explained she wouldn't spend time pondering over it. She'd just say, 'Ah, it's the faeries.'
Your poem describes a great journey into not just a forest but also folklore. Your words to describe smells and noises as well as the scene make the encounter with the wee fellas very believable. Great stuff Jenny!

Get well soon!
Oh, no! Pneumonia! I'm really sorry to hear you've been so ill. It's nice to see you back though so I hope your health continues to improve. I had wondered but didn't like to pry.
The situation with our garden (along with our cars and our roof) is probably best described as a combination of soul-destroying and grim. I've continued doing my 100 words thing throughout the fiasco so you'll be able to read a bit more about it when I post it on ABC next week. In the meantime, thank you very much for caring.
Good on you Jenny!

Oh Jenny I hope you are
Oh Jenny I hope you are better soon; I'm so sorry to hear you have pneumonia. Please take care of yourself. -- I am happy to see you're writing and I much enjoyed this 'dear diary' post. I was taken in by the vivid imagination stirred by an out of place, lost or left behind, blue towel, and by the mystery you weave in splendid forest magic.

Thankyou for your reply, it's
Thankyou for your reply, it's so good to know the anti biotics are working, it took two goes for my son, too. Please try not to overdo things as you get better, as he would think he could go out and about and then be overwhelmed with tiredness. But he is ALL BETTER now, and so will you be! I hope you get that hip sorted soon, that will make the world of difference
