No Mrs Muggins has not left me (yet??) Alfred refers to his ongoing employment problems, for which he partly (largely?) blames Social Services (which is run by the Labour council in our town, at the moment, so we can’t even blame the Tories, except in the context of the way the whole country is run. Alfred decides, tactically that he will not post this on Facebook, or abctales.com yet, one day before the General Election, as he does not want to run the risk of someone deciding not to vote for Labour, or voting Tory, as a result of his small post. If change is going to come there must at least be a change of Government, and an attempt to gradually readjust the way things are done in this increasingly sad country!)

On this day of American elections it seemed to Alfred to be appropriate to finally post this little piece relating to the British election earlier in the summer, and also as there seems to be no longer any reason to keep 'quiet' about the failures of Labour Councils, for the better interest of the nation. Needless to say Alfred did actually lose that job, in complete opposition to all principles avowed by both Tory prime Ministers and Labour morality, despite supposed commitments to encourage workers to keep their jobs in the community care sectors. Alfred says Thankyou very much! to the powers that be and their precious principles!

Thanks Insert after another couple of weeks in the job Alfred rang up after a couple of days of again not being given any work to ask for more and was told his availablility wasn't good enough, even though he had worked in all 4 periods of the day, 7 days a week, in the previous busy few months for his previous company who had to hand over their contracts at the beginning of June. The new company are supposed to keep all carers who wish to continue on, for the benefit of a smooth handover, for the sake of existing clients, and to encourage workers to continue in community care. I wrote a bit more about this situation in my 'D Day in Community Care' article in June, although that was before they decided not to give me any more work. As many are aware we live in a society where a lot of rules are bent all the time. Politicians, councillors, employers may have good intentions, but in practice everybody does what is convenient  and no one bothers to check that companies are carrying out the principles they are supposed to be using. And no one punishes the companies who fall short. That company was trying to employ lots of new carers, without many of them having great standards/training. Although I don't blame the new cares, I blame the company which is obviously not experienced and can't even pay the slightest attention to the rules for keeping existing staff on. I also blame social services for making such a terrible decision in allocating work to such a company.

Sorry if I digress a bit too much there. Also we live in a society which condones the getting rid of older staff. The words of politicians are not even followed. I have picked up some carers allowance for a family member's care and an extension of my wife's client's work.

Thanks Di. As I said above in reply to Insert they dropped me for no good reason. I think it has happened to a few of us. I have 20 years of service with the previous company, although work did rather dry up a couple of years ago for a while. I did a fairly long on line complaint form to social services after some time. I have heard the company has/is being forced to improve in a number of matters, but I have received no official feedback direct from social services, or approach from the 'new' company. However after being treated like that I don't want to work for them now. Unfortunately I have been too lazy/busy to try to sue them for unfair dismissal yet, but really that is what I should be doing. I should take some advice.

I am glad you have some income coming in, at least. Sounds like those being cared for will be suffering, too. Altogether not what any government would want. I can imagine it would be very difficult to sue them, though wish you the best of luck in trying. Perhaps if you could discover whether this has happened to many people, like yourself, in other companies around the country? From listening to the Post Office scandal, that only started to change when they shared knowledge. Good Luck!

You are right, thanks. Alfred will always find some new tangent to follow, although it might well not involve real money, or much of it. He is not entirely suited to 'real' work, but always manages to scrape along one way or the other!
