Rain

“We chose a bad day to come to this planet, Finch,” I said.
Finch said nothing, he just let the rain gush down on him, as if he was enjoying a shower.
“I said we chose a bad day,” I repeated.
“In what way?” said Finch eventually.
I gestured to the seeming ocean-turned-upside-down plummeting upon us.
“It’s raining,” I said.
“It’s always raining here.”
“Always?”
“Always.”
“But always like this?”
“Always like this. It's a unique climate Asher, a world covered in oceans, close proximity to the sun, large size and gravity, with a unique atmosphere heavy in moisture. It’s the wettest place in the universe."
“Why have you brought us to the wettest place in the universe, Finch? It’s like a summer I spent Skegness.”
“Think of the animals Asher,” Finch said.
“What, you want to rescue the animals and take them somewhere less wet, like some intergalactic Noah.”
“No, think about it Asher. Evolution. The animals on this planet, what’s special about them?”
“They evolved to get wet.”
“Yes Asher, exactly that, well the opposite of that, they evolved to stay dry.”
“I don’t understand.”
“I know that Asher, you never do, it’s what I like about you. You make me feel superior.”
“It’s rather wet Finch, can you hurry up and decide whether to explain why we’re here or to insult me.”
“Their hides are perfect water proofs. There is nothing in the universe like it, billions and billions of years of evolution where the main threat is the weather, every animal has developed the perfect protection. Their hides make the best raincoats in the universe.”
“Pity we’re not wearing one of them.”
“We will be.”
“You mean you want to go hunting? In this weather?”
“Not hunting Asher, shopping.”
“That’s more like it. They have shops here?”
“Just around the corner.”
“Let’s go then, I’m fed up standing here soaking up water like an unwilling sponge.”
