The Stain on the Pants of Modern Entertainment

I feel compelled to share with those who haven't seen it the review in yesterday's Daily Mail of the Big Brother Live Launch Show...

"Sorry, but if people will keep watching Big Brother, it won't go away. That so many do is a sign of the continuing wannabe culture, and the lack of anything else worth viewing. The house has been revamped (whatever), and Davina McCall once again shouty-presents. A series of desperately sad people, prepared to endure months of boredom just to be on television, will troop out of their limos, feeling a million dollars, but with a true collective worth of about 6p. Big Brother was indeed an ingenious format - seven series ago. It's time to switch off.

I watched this show for about 3 minutes when the first version came out over here. Haven't seen it since. Matter of fact...haven't seen much of anything since I keep the television unplugged most of the time. Visit me http://www.radiodenver.org/

Watched a bit of the first series. Thought it was crap. Avoided it after that. Anyone moaning that there is crap on television needs to get out more.

They've really fucked me off this year. After 4 years of abstinence I felt quite proud, but they've pulled out an ace this year - a tourettes contestant. It's annoying....but worth watching the highlights for. for..blah..ooahh...yar....fresh tomato..carrot and corinader...I've been to Goa...4 star y'all.. I was annoyed because it pushed Green Wing and My Name is Earl back an hour.
Rather a lifetime of Big Brother reruns than a paragraph from the Daily Bigot.
Agreed on the Daily Bigot - but Big Brother, and all of its appaliing spin spin-offs, is nobody's fault but the the viewers. If people don't watch then it soon goes away. I, along with many other documentary makers, have particular cause for concern for the 'reality TV' shows have pushed documentaries off the TV agenda. The documentary is too expensive - it involves real research and possible legal trouble - so the TV companies won't make them. Hurrah! goes the establishment. No more troublesome journalists digging up dirt. Some bloody democracy, huh?
>>> Rather a lifetime of Big Brother reruns than a paragraph from the Daily Bigot. Erm... really? I think I'd rather be forced to read Mein Kampf a dozen times than have a lifetime of Big Brother re-runs (BTW, I only have the Daily 'Bigot' for the weekly TV section - honest) >>> I was annoyed because it pushed Green Wing and My Name is Earl back an hour. Absolutely! Although the last episode of GW did bring a lump to one's throat... Back to the BB topic... couldn't agree more on Mr Cook's points. BB was an intriguing "social experiment at" first, but then it very quickly deteriorated into lowest denominator trash of the worst kind. I must admit to being a little sucked in by the last "celebrity" one though... :-) * P * :-) ( Read my blog! - www.oddcourgette.blogspot.com )

The All New Pepsoid the Second!

I enjoy reading the Daily Bigot, on occasion, for a good laugh. Their moral outrage is the best part of it. What I find more appalling than the BB shows themselves is the fact that the celebrities are hardly that, and the 'non-celebrities' like what'sherface Chantelle suddenly become famous. Excuse me, you're talented HOW? And for WHAT? Gross.
Chantelle is famous for being untalented in every concievable way - and that's gotta take some talent! :-) * P * :-) ( Read my blog! - www.oddcourgette.blogspot.com )

The All New Pepsoid the Second!

Long gone are the days of glamourous and mysterious superstars. Now we get Essex girls with loads of slap. Missi, where's that poem of yours?
North bank, Thames delta, Essex girl, bus shelter, Essex boy licks his lips' Knickers down she drops her chips. Does that describe this woman? I wouldn't know myself as I never watch crap like BB, so know nothing about her.

I think Miss Pippi is being disingenious. (sic) I seem to have managed to avoid BB by simply not watching it. Ingenious or ingenuous? Go figure.

Disingenuous? How come? I posted the poem for AG. It was actually written in a chat room when one of the participants in a five way conversation suggested we all write a short poem about the girls in our area. It wasn't meant to be anything other than a humorous comment on Essex girls as the rest of the country used to see them. It actually got me a scolding from an Essex girl on another website that thought it was insulting! I also REALLY don't watch BB. I REALLY don't know anything about the woman in question apart from the fact that she looks very much like Paris Hilton, that spoilt slapper who's always in the press. Disingenuous? Explain please.

It's the same answer for the Daily Bigot as it is for BB. don't watch/buy them and they may go away. Tell other people to do the same. It could become a movement.
even if you do abstain. Harder to avoid your colleagues discussing the previous night's episode in excruciating detail each morning. A big motivating factor in me leaving ! This is why I don't get ghost stories either . Why would a dead person come back for a few centuries or millenia of watching other people's dull lives? jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

Ha ha! I never watched BB either (I'll cop to the Apprentice), but as jude says, you can't get away from everyone ELSE discussing the bloody show. The Daily Bigot will have at least one reader whilst my dragon mother-in-law exists. She likes to bang on about refugees sponging off the system, conveniently forgetting that she was born to a Yugoslav mother and during WW2 came to England as a 'stateless' person.
I like Big Brother. It's good fun and nobody dies. I'll be watching it. So will lots of other people. That's it.

Going by my "Right to enjoy the brainless" stance on the DVC... I cannot really slate anyone for enjoying this. *makes straining face at the position I have foolishly put myself into* You have fun Bukharin !! jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

If I wanted to watch bickering idiots all day I'd read an internet forum thank you very much.

"It's the same answer for the Daily Bigot as it is for BB. don't watch/buy them and they may go away. Tell other people to do the same." Doesn't whipping up disapproval of things for reasons of taste usually make them more popular?

You say you know nothing about these young women Missi, but write about them with such clarity. I think abctales has found a genius.

Just thinking out loud, but cor, I don't half fancy that Pete. *does watch Big Brother and doesn't think it is a bad thing per se... just they should be a bit careful about putting in people who might have mental health problems* *knows the whole need to go on a reality tv program may suggest mental health problems but cannot be bothered to debate it*
You know how they used to permit members of the public to visit madhouses in the 1900's? Hmmm....
