Sunbathers

My view from my balcony over Burgess park spoiled today with what looked like, from a height of seven floors, a large number of uncooked Cornish Pasties strewn over the grass. A little bit of sun and Nosferatu flies out of the cave and exposes waxy white skin to the elements and the rest of the general public.

It shouldn't be allowed in public parks, I tell you.
And I think bathing wagons should be re-introduced at beaches.

Why are white people so obsessed with bronzing themselves? Mad dogs and Englishmen!

"a large number of uncooked Cornish Pasties strewn over the grass" haha - I love that. Spot on. ~ www.fabulousmother.com

Well, I’m a bona fide uncooked Cornish pastie and I thought it was funny. *continues playing freckle dot-to-dot on newly sunned shins* ~ www.fabulousmother.com
And I'm romantically affiliated to an uncooked Cornish Pastie with ginger hair and freckles! There is a big difference between a light-hearted poke at ourselves as a nation and a full blown 'ism'. I read recently that somewhere in the US, a city (can't remember which) council has banned the wearing of trousers so low that the underpants show over the top, on the grounds of indecency. Although I think that looks okay and most people who adopt that style have pleasent looking pants! jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

Nosferatu!! LMAO!! And here am I, raised in New Mexico, slathering myself in SPF 30 the moment the sun peeks from behind the clouds, even in Cambridge. Horses for courses. I object more to the stupidity about sun exposure, than skin exposure. Skin cancer is no joke, and it isn't worth the 'sexiness' of sun-bronzed skin. My Gran, who was a redhead, was constantly having pre-cancerous growths burned or frozen off her hands and arms in her later years, and she was very meticulous about covering up. What's wrong with looking like Nosferatu, then?
Rather the uncooked Cornish pasties than the frazzled croissants some white chaps and chappesses turn themselves into.
There were some gruesome but very effective adverts warning of sun damage in the windows of 'Boots' last year. It showed people with half their bodies bronzed, young and beautiful and the other half ravaged by sun damage. You are right AG, it is no joke. I like the pale look (I can't imagine a brown P - he'd look silly!) jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

I just love it when the sun comes out - my dry winter skin clears up like magic and I can stop slathering myself in grease of a night and morn. We even had shorts on the golf course this weekend. Very fetching. Not.
Dirty swines. The tanning parlour crowd are worse. They're scary with their weird, old brown faces and big, blank white eyes....ugh...yep! Definately something all together not attractive about spit-roast skin. I think people tend to get an extra dose of self confidence if they're under the impression that their skin is a few tones more healthy looking...as opposed to scorched...and silently weeping.."eeeeek" When the power of love overcomes the love of power, we'll find peace. - Jimi Hendrix

Live and let live has worked just fine for us so far!
I'm all for live and let live, but those of us who work directly with the public, every day, do not have the 'don't like, don't look' option. I respect the right of everyone to expose as much, or as little, of their flesh as they like. I also reserve the right to blanch at the sight of a queue of meat at various stages of roasting. Personally, I long ago graduated from uncooked pasty to barely set blancmange status. M
