Positive drift

he found it difficult to connect,
felt he was drifting out of control
which he found comforting
the uncertainty

many had left the city, moved to the country
bringing up kids, living a life he did not want to live

and the remainder were also drifting
meeting up to drift together briefly
before returning to their caves, to stoke their fires
hoping for some kind of ignition, an explosion
a bright light, to follow or illuminate something

it was exciting not to know what lay behind the next corner
or where the corner was

there were no children tugging him in any direction

could he leave it all?

no, he liked where he was, and who he was with
they could drift together and find whatever they needed
to find.
