BEAT THE CLOCK
Lyrics to Leroy Anderson's timeless (?) tune : "Syncopated Clock" (April 2002)
HEAR HERE : http://www.somethingstupid.plus.com/beattheclock.html
When Stone Age Man first found his flint,
He chipped that block and with a sideways squint,
He harnessed his incendiary glint
Declared : "No more shall I be skint,
from now we'll flay upon the flames,
We'll cook with clay, make culinary claims,
To favour flavour in our stew,
Be on cue for the barbecue."
And so the newly seasoned seasons harvested every crop,
With no small encouragement from minions who'd toil 'til they
drop,
From dawn 'til dusk and dusk til dawn,
It's filling tills alone can fend off ills
So render skills to tender bills,
And glean thrills picking husk from corn
Mask your scorn
Though you're torn
Charming chimes
Telling times
But my rhymes
Won't bring nickels and dimes
Nine to five
Want to skive
Or connive
Other ways to survive
Beat the clock
Break the lock
With a shock
Kick the tick from the tock
Pendulum
Seems so glum
So let's embrace a new rule of thumb
We only THINK we need dinner,
Success, these days, means showing that you're thinner,
No one well-bred looks well-fed
Those with most cred' all swing the lead
In the twenty first century
We should surmount past peptic penury
It's up to us just IF we eat
Watch cringing Chronos taste defeat
