Artist

This is how an artist should look,
with his nails cut to the bone,
and paint under his nails.
Unshaven, with a hundred yard stare.
He
should
splice his films together with spit,
and run three quarters of a mile
to deliver the last reel to the cinema.
He
should
mix his drinks
with blood and sweat
and tears.
He
should
sleep in his studio
and he
should
confuse his life
with his dreams.
He
should
live fast,
but he should not die young.
