Lifeforms

Deep in the Earth they brooded in silence. Watching the city like we
watch the TV. Laughing at our funny moments and crying at the
tragedies. Connected to biological machines by organic feeding
tubes.
Imprisoned by their own technology, they had evolved in such a way as
to no longer be able to walk or even crawl. Just sit like slugs: like
technological couch potatoes.
Immortality their science had granted them; but they prefferred to
watch the soap opera of other peoples lives than live their own. You
would not believe that they were our great ancestors, our great
grandmothers and grandfathers. That once they walked the earth as we
do.
But then again... maybe you would...
