PROMISES, PROMISES

You promised me the earth.
It wasn't even yours.
You promised me forever.
With hand on heart, you swore.
You promised to make me happy.
There was no guarantee.
You couldn't force a feeling;
It happens naturally.
You promised and kept promising,
With words so firmly spoken.
It seems you only made promises,
So that they could be broken.
And I wouldn't have cared, but you shouldn't have said,
If you just couldn't follow things through.
I'd never have expected you to give so much,
But you promised so much of you.
