W You Said

You said "I love you" as I pierced your side.

When my words spit pain, and my hands brought the hammer down;
When I lifted you up on a cross so I could laugh at you as you
said,

"I love you. This pain is for you.
This blood will wash away your sin,
and give you my grace.
But, above it all, I do this because
I love you."

You said "I love you" as your strength
began to fail, and I looked you in the
eyes and cursed the day you were born.

I gave you vinegar for water to intensify
the burning in your lips, so I could laugh with
my friends as you said "I love you."

As I sat broken and
needy, and cried to you for relief,
You touched me, and made me whole when
you said "I love you."
