Four Thousand Dreams

Four thousand dreams of golden joy
Flow through the bright and silent sea,
While angels fall from burning skies
I look into the eyes of eternity.
She weeps in gentle pools of night
And breaks the chains of silken fire.
She takes my hands and soothes my brow
And cools the flames of my desire.
The sun bursts through the clustered cloud
And strikes its fist upon the earth,
Where choirs sing and preachers preach
And madmen scream at the Devil's birth.
I kiss your pale and dying eyes
And touch the beauty of your face.
I take your weak and trembling hand
and lead you gently from this place
we wander through the fields of light
and down towards the silent sea.
We face the dawn with trembling hearts
And know that what will be must be.
