Just You and I

I sat in silence watching strangers pass.
Wondering where they might be going.
Their lives appearing to be a mass of one rush after another.
No time to even put down the phone and notice what lies around
them.
The simple beauty of a flower, fluffs of dandelion floating in
air,
to watch a ladybug's slow progress, or fireflies gather as evening
draws.
To see these things with the wonder of a small child is to know
rapture.
Yet, there are few moments of solitude in the adult's life.
A whirlwind of beeps, rings, and tunes played over cell phones.
Talking with one friend while on your way to see another,
all while faxing from the car and receiving a page.
I thought how rare it is to see someone sitting still.
Just silently sitting and observing.
No wonder our poor children are hyper.
They see us and probably feel as though they should be in a
hurry.
They too already have appointments in their little lives.
Play dates, piano lessons, soccer games and more.
The sign of times to come so early on.
Come with me my child.
I will take small steps with you.
We will gaze in awe at the ant hills we see.
Vaporize clouds merely by concentrating
and watch the world go by for awhile.
Just you and I.
