The Morning Star

Spread among the acorns and the flowers
In the optimistic early hours
Lies the light of the morning star.
Far above the crumbling foundations
Of a thousand civilizations
It has forever shined from afar.
The sight of it raises a million smiles
As we gaze upon it for a little while
In an invisible fraternity.
And if only its duration were not so short
Then we could forever hold the sacred thought
Of faith in eternity.
The fortress awaits where the generals lurk
And the soldiers cradle their barren work,
And the captives dress their wounds.
And Venus is mourning her time as a slave
In her swirling, forgotten, circular grave
As we wait for her hand on our tombs.
