Gypsy Lovers
Why do we revel so in all our misery,
Accept, and live with all the wreckage
Of other people's lives?
We tell them that we love them but
We don't expect replies -
We are the shoulders that they cry on,
The sweepers of the broken china that they threw in anger
At their loved ones,
We are the piece-picker-uppers,
We are the used, the abused, the taken-for-granted,
We are the ones they run to, and then from:
The Unintended,
We are the ones they hurt most of all -
Like gypsies, we never stop long;
We fix broken hearts, and then we get moved on.
