Single file.
By my silent undoing

You were giggling, smoking,
I made eye-contact with you once or twice.
You went one way, I went the other
And of course, I'll never see you again.
If I could have somehow frozen time,
Frozen everything except you and I,
I would have told you my name. Asked you
"How's it going?¦
And maybe you'd have just laughed,
Filled me with shame yet again
But I like to think that you'd have liked me,
Y'know? That I might even have made you smile.
But I guess that I'll never know now, will I?
I guess that life is only ever single-file.
