To all the moths and flies
By my silent undoing

The stage has cleared, the
Other actors gone home with
Better things to do,
Better ways to spend
Their time. Leaving me to speak
My final lines, my
Much feted soliloquy
To the audience:
All the moths and flies.
I take the mic. You
Could cut the expectation
With a blunt knife, a
Dirty razor blade -
Or hang it from the rafters,
A surer bet: far less
Likely to forget
My lines, miss the major veins.
A real crowd pleaser,
Guaranteed to please!
Going down to rapturous
Applause: the silent
Fluttering of wings.
