An Empty Face with Soulful Eyes

I met an Indian woman who wore her societal veil
Looking at me deep into my eyes, communicating without speaking.
I remember thinking what is that mask covering?
Do those eyes of soul have an equal in the face?
She sat there, staring silent without moving
Not that she doesn't have something to say
Rather because that is her way or so she's been told
By those around her expounding their beliefs, their opinions.
Forever lost by society's standards wearing her life as a caste
Blinded by the non-truths spoken as dogma.
Grasping at each day as her last, hoping to break free.
Wishing to shed her manufactured skin to the world.
Her actions allowing us to recover from our disease, our blindness.
Learning from her beauty as she has looked at ours for so long.
Understanding the individuality of the individual,
Accepting her soul to walk with ours on this vast earth.
