I stared around me. I stared around me at the Barren Universe. I stared around me at the white sheet of Nothing. Surely to God I wasn't the only one here? Surely there had to be someone else here?
I got up and started wandering around aimlessly. How did I get out ogf here? Did the Water Bzaby mean to keep me here forever? He had said I would be the first person to exist here when the world began. But he'd also said that the world wouldn't begin for another thousand years. I wouldn't even be alive then. I doubt I'd still be alive tomorrow. Not if there wasn't any food or drink about.
I'd been wishing for a place like this ever since the day I'd discovered I was an emo. But now it seemed kind of boring.
Up until now, the place seemed quiet as well. But now I could hear a sort of music in the distance. It was the sort of music that probably included Pussycat Slags and Christina Uglyera.
As it got closer, I saw it was Sophie. Not Sophie my baby sister, but Sophie, my supposed foster sister. I realized I'd been hearing the music because she was listening to an Ipod, and had it turned up full blast.
"Hey, Sophie!" I yelled out. She saw me, and turned off her music. "Hey, Sara," she said. "What are you doing here?"
"I was brought here."
"By who?"
"The Water Baby."
"No way. So was I."
"And he told me this strange thing."
"Yeah? He told me this was the Barren Universe and the world would start in a thousand years from now and that I'd be the first to exist here."
"Really? He told me the same thing."
"But we won't be alive, will we?"
"No, we need to think of a way to get out of here."
"How? I've been wandering around for hours. And I can't find anymore Anomalies to go through."
I bit my lip. I suddenly felt ill.
"Sara? You okay? You've gone ever so pale."
"Yeah. I'm okay. So, there are no Anomalies?"
Sophie nodded.
"Well, that settles it. We'll just have to stay here til we cease to exist."
Suddenly, a screeching sound rent the air. And we both turned to see something come hurtling towards us. As it got closer, I saw it looked like a Pteranodon, the flying dinosaur from the third "Jurassic Park" movie. As it got closer, it started honing in on Sophie and I.
"Run!" She yelled. I didn't need telling twice. We both ran like the wind. And then I felt the sharpness of claws close in on me...
I woke some time later. I saw I was looking at a sheet of sky blue. I realized I was lying down and I sat up. To my surprise, instead of looking at a sheet of white Nothing, I was now looking at a green ground. Up above me, a blue sky. A thousand years had passed! The world had started.
I couldn't see Sophie anywhere. I got up, struggling, to my feet, to go and look for her. I saw some trees in the distance, so I went over there first to see if it had any fruit as I was hungry.
I got there and looked up into it's branches. It didn't have any fruit, so I picked off a leaf, and tried nibbling, just to take the hunger pangs away.
"Oh, yuck!" I exclaimed, spitting the leaves out. They had a distinct bitter taste, and didn't take away the hunger pangs.
I wished I hadn't made a noise. The trees started rustling and a head poked out. It took me a moment to realize that I was watching a
t-rex. 'Unbelievable!' I thought to myself. I pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Then tried to remember what I knew about t-rexes.
I remembered (from Jurassic Park movies) that they only saw you if you moved, so I froze, careful not to move a muscle.
Jurassic Park was wrong. The bloody thing saw me!
It gave an almighty roar that would've woken the dead, and I took off.
I ran and ran, til I got to a swamp. Realizing that being sunk in a swamp was better than being eaten alive by a rampaging t-rex, I headed straight for it, and didn't stop. And then, the world of the dinosaurs disappeared, and I found myself running towards a blanket in the middle of a field, with a snogging coupke sitting upon it...
