It all happened on July the 5th, 2025. What happened? I hear you ask. Well, the world ended, that’s what happened. But if the world ended, how am I sitting here telling you this story? Well, that’s because I survived the attack from the legions of Hell. Along with the rest of my family; my sister, Ronnie, and my mum, Sarah.
It all happened the day we took a day trip to the beach. Mum had been working all day every day, but she finally had the whole day off one Saturday. We took advantage of it by packing up a few sandwiches and bottles of coke, and going down the beach for the day.
We all argued about it the night before about where to go. But finally we decided. Readymoney Cove in Fowey. If only it were the best day of our lives…
On Saturday, we packed our sandwiches and cokes into the car, and went on our way to the beach. The car ride itself went quite smoothly, we were just generally laughing and fooling around, and bugging Mum by asking if we were there yet.
Aswe got close to Readymoney Cove, we were surprised to see so many cars driving by on the opposite side of the road. It was such a gorgeous, beautiful day, that it seemed odd that so many people would be driving away from the beach, rather than towards it.
We parked in the car park, and paid for a parking ticket. We got out of the car, and took out our blankets and deckchairs. We decided to leave our lunch in the car, so we wouldn't get tempted and eat it before we were supposed to.
We got down on the beach and Mum and I set out our blankets on the ground. Mum started to sunbathe, I took out my battered copy of "Wuthering Heights" and began to read. Ronnie was sitting btween us, building sandcastles.
I was quite enjoying my book, when a shadow fell over me. I looked up. The shadow belonged to a blonde man, wearing a dog collar and carrying a bible. I guessed he was a vicar.
"The world's going to end," he said.
"Yeah, sure, buddy," I replied, turning a page of my book.
"Didn't you hear me? I said the world's going to end!"
I ignored him.
Suddenly, he snatched the book out of my hands and threw it to the ground.
"Now you listen here, Missy! I said the world's going to end, and I want you to listen to me!"
I looked over at Mum, she'd sat up, and taken her sunglasses off. I looked down at Ronnie, she'd stopped making her sandcastle, even though it wasn't finished yet. I sighed. Oh, well, if I endure him for five minutes, the berk might bugger off and hassle someone else.
"The world will start going through the process of ending in approximately two hours. I want you go home and prepare, you need to dig yourselves a tunnel, go underground, and stay there for at least twenty-four hours."
"How will the world end?" I asked, humouring him.
His eyes bulged. "A giant nuclear bomb, which will blow up the entire world!"
I was about to say something else, but he ran off, shouting: "THE WORLD'S GOING TO END! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!"
Mum put her sunglasses back on. "Never going to happen. I've heard it all before." She laid back down.
I got off my seat, and picked up my book where it was thrown to the ground, and resumed reading.
'Oh, well," I thought. 'If Mum's not bothered about it, I guess I shouldn't be either.'
The truth was, I wasn't really bothered about it either, I just wanted to make sure Mum wasn't either. I'd heard that sort of thing before as well. Philosophers have predicted the world would end so many times before. First it was 1999, nothing happened. Then 2002, nothing. 2005, nothing again. Then 2007, nothing yet again. The last prediction was 2012. Nothing. Okay, a meteorite did hit the Earth, up in Canada, and everyone got scaredsilly, because a meteorite was supposed to have wiped out the dinosaurs. But it didn't kill anyone. All it did, was cut off the water supply in Canada for a whole week. Not exactly the end of civilization as we knew it.
I read my book, oblivious that, in a couple of hours time, the vicar's prediction would come true. It wasn't til I took a break from reading that I noticed that my mum, my sister and I were the only ones on the beach. Had that vicar told anyone else the world was going to end? Was that why so many cars drove by us on the way to the beach?
I came back from the toilet and took up reading again. It seemed deathly quiet on the beach all of a sudden. We were there, reading, sunbathing, building sandcastles, for quite some time, and still nobody else came on the beach. I half expected him to come back, and warn us of any other dangers. A metorite hurtling towards us. Or possibly giant crabs coming to gobble us for their tea. The second one sounded really stupid, like something out of a Sci-Fi movie. Or a dream. Perhaps that was it. Maybe I was dreaming, and it wasvery vivid, and any second now, I was going to wake up.
Two hours went by since the vicar, but nothing as yet had happened. Maybe he was wrong, or possibly, he was a madman, who got a kick out of scaring people?
I began to regret this thinking however, half an hour later.
Everything suddenly went black, like it was night-time. Ronnie started screaming, and Mum sat up, saying: "What the Hell is going on?"
I looked up. The sky had gone a rich shade of purple. And then the ground started shaking. Mum and I were thrown off our deck-chairs.
I looked at the ground, a few feet away from us, something was protruding through! I couldn't make it out at first, but then I realized it was a sword. And then, all of a sudden, there were other people standing on the beach with us.
These weren't ordinary people however. These were skeletons, I kid you not! Either that, or they were anorexic people who hadstarved themselves too skinny.
They all saw us watching them, and they all held up their swords to the sky, and let out an ear-splitting yell. It was so loud that Mum, Ronnie and I cowerded, holding our hands to our ears.
Ronnie started crying.
"Quick! Back to the car!" Mum ordered. "Don't worry about our stuff! Let's just go!"
We did as Mum said. We all stood up, braving the yells coming from the skeletal people. We ran all the way, careful not to look behind us, but somehow I knew that they were following us, running after us.
We got to the car park, but we were stopped dead in our tracks, at a horrible sight.
Our car was smashed up, and there were no other cars around...
