Sweet Stalker

At night, moonlit, you
expect me to trip wires
so leave alarms off
for the minutes it takes
my stealth to avoid
the twigs on the path,
the gravel,
the crispy leaves,
the skin of ice on the grass.
I'd be a sensor around your home;
and in nature's hum,
in the silence of foxes,
spirit in a matrix of lawn.
In stillness you watch me come.
I sense presence
and the suddenness
of a different quiet.
Gridlock. I wait quietly
for death, or an attack,
but those eyes hold mine
and flicker. Was that a smile
before turning away?
Safe journey spirit.

It’s busy tonight,
and so soft my footsteps
on the snow, because
grief is its own retreat,
when love wants only you,
wanting me. Goodnight my love.
Enjoy –
my ambient absence.
