Misconception

The hot light burns into my brain and I slowly lift my head to the sky. The brightness nearly blinds me and for a moment I am paralyzed. The light had pin-pointed me; just me. The rest of the world goes on as normal, but the everyday bustle of the city is no longer part of my life. For I am to be taken, to once again leave my mundane existence here on earth and go to them. The aliens are here!
"Drat it!" I say aloud. "Can't you guys ever book an appointment?"
Don't get me wrong - it's not as if I don't want to go with them. I do. It's great up there, and I haven't seen my husband for almost a week now. That's a long time in in light years you know. But sometimes I wish they'd give me a little advanced warning. I have to be home in an hour, the new child minder was pretty freaked this morning. Can't imagine why, green skin never bothered me.
But hey! What am I saying? You'll all be thinking I'm a nutter by now. Lock her up and throw away the key. Give her one of those nice padded jumpers so she can hug herself all day long. He he he he! Oops!
Right, where was I? Oh yes. Well I guess I'd better start from the beginning. It was a lovely summer's day... Actually, that's not entirely true. It was the middle of the night when they first came to me - aliens have very little sense of time you see. So anyway they took me away with them and treated me really good. A little of the probing and stuff but I guess that should be expected. They'd never seen anything like me before.
They live really well up there, all posh houses and tons of food. Not like it is down here half the time. Still I can't complain. I was chosen by them to lead a better life, one of peace and harmony. Sort of. So anyway, this kind of thing carries on for a few weeks. They come down and take me away for a few hours, do all their tests and stuff and dump me back home again in time for tea.
It wasn't until about a month after I was first taken that I met my husband-to-be for the first time. They explained to me how they wanted us to mate so they could see what the results would be.
Ha! I could have told them right away what the results would be. One human + One alien, (a very good-looking alien I must admit), and you're obviously going to get a.... But no, that would be telling.
So I agree to their little plan and carry on with life as usual. I tell everyone back home it was just a one-night stand as the bump becomes obvious and they're none the wiser. Nine months later, whamo. One little ball of slime. It wasn't hard to read their minds when they first saw my little bundle of joy. Eurgh! Well, like I told them, that's what comes from messing with alien genes you know nothing about!
Personally I saw nothing wrong with the child at all. His skin was a little pale, but that would wear off in time. And besides, his three purple eyes certainly were a beauty, just like his mother's.
And now? Well now we're starting a family. Got to keep Junior company after all.
