Cold Old City Holes

During the recession many people lost their jobs and then in turn they lost their homes as they were unable to repay their mortgage .
Soon after many broken marriages were the result of a system that had become corrupt and cruel .

As winter approached the fear of many street people was that of being left out in the cold .

This problem then created a influx of predators who zeroed in to the situation .

These sharks almost instantly were able to get approval for their proposed new developments . Soon the new owners of these clustered run down and cheap properties became very wealthy .
It happened almost overnight .
The greedy owners managed to fill up their bed-and-breakfast bedsits in the city with numerous homeless people who had given authority for the landlors to have the rent money directly debited from social security payments .

Funded by tax-payers money , these developers soon were able to clear mortgages and build more and more properties .

These properties where then paid off with the help of the public purse .
But still that wasn’t enough . Greed knows no end and those who feed onn the misfortune of others are never satisfied .

Once again plotting out future developments that would ensure wealth without risk became their bread and butter .

In the eyes of the general public they would look like heroes .
Media supported their drive to help the homeless but if the truth were told
an ugly picture of depravity and disgust would be seen .

The Cube City Developers advertised new measures to get the homeless off the street and into a home of their own . In reality however the developments were well below the standard of acceptable accommodation .

Once they had residents in their flats , that was it . No maintenance was ever carried out and there was no mercy if rent wasn’t paid .

One of the saddest things is that some of these new high flying entrepreneurs regarded homeless people as the scum of the earth . They didn’t care about them . The homeless were just a pawn in their big time monopoly game of life .

Get rich quick landlords soon convinced many new investors about this guaranteed money that was as safe as houses .

So much money then became available in the area of cheap development mainly because it was going to provide a place for homeless people and the rent for those rooms was guaranteed by the government .

I was able to meet up with a huge number of unemployed people who had come to London to find work and found themselves on the streets .

I was one of the lucky ones who had come in search for work .
That’s how I got off the system and into a private rental accommodation .

Isn’t it sad how those who have the ability to assist others end up using them instead .
I doubt If they ever though of anyone but themselves .

They all drove nice cars and wore expensive clothes .
They wore gold and seemed powerful .
Being part of the well to do in London brought rewards .
I’m sure they had all had a lovely home and possessions inside .

The exploitation of the unemployed was tragic .
As more and more people were drawn by the London magnet into false hope and security , they were candidates for Cube City Developments ..

Not only was there was no work to find but the numbers grew each day .
Everyone arrived to London with high hopes but there was not enough accommodation for the million and a half homeless in1989 around London .

I remember one of these cheap joints in East London .
Darby and a few others had built a small three storey blocks of flats .
The site had been originally a dump but no one told the residents about that . How easy it was for local council give the project the go-ahead .

Some street people got wise to what was going on and before you knew it the landlords and owners became victim of regular bashings .

After a series of brutal attacks during the cold weather it was decided that the majority of the homeless who were living in these cheap flats were to be evicted on to the street .
As the word was passed around , hundreds of people began to break in to empty buildings in the hope of finding some shelter in case the landlords showed up with some heavies to evict them .

Just as it comes so shall it be done .
Those who get rich at the expense of others must realise before it happens .
