You're drinking in Soho
at a a party full of celebrities - Jamelia
Alex James, Adam and Joe
a voice in your head says 'You don't deserve to be here.'
The voice says 'Are you happy?' and you tell it you're fine
but as soon as it's spoken you start to have doubts
you're surrounded by friends and free glasses of wine
but now you're looking around the room planning how to get out.
The next night, dunking Dominos Meat Feast in to barbecue sauce
watching films on DVD
you're hit by an overwhelming force
and the voice once more asks 'Are you happy?'
It's the weekend, a film premiere in Leicester Square
it's full of celebs: Will Smith
N Dubz, Comedy Dave, Dani Behr
and the voice whispers 'happiness is just a myth.'
This is the first time you've felt able
to love where you live
you've got a fish tank, games consoles, a snooker table
and the voice says 'Wouldn't you be happier if you had someone to share this with?'
That summer, waterskiing in Monaco
the voice is back, it says 'You can't escape your problems here'
and suddenly you're getting dressed on the beach, you just want to go
because the voice has caught up with you, it's always so near.
And the voice says 'Are you happy?'
The voice says 'Are you happy?'
The voice says 'Are you happy?'
and you say 'Haven't you asked me this already?'
And the voice says 'yes'.
And you say 'are you keep going to keep asking$ me that every day?'
And the voice says 'yes'.
