Chapter 7
Michael strode through the kitchen into the living room past Amber and Sara straight to the front door.
“What the fuck is going on here?” shouted Sara “What were those things? And where the hell is, Tink?” Just as Sara said that, Tinker bell ran through the kitchen and jumped into her arms, licking her face.
“Vampires!” said Michael, as he watched the Rolls Royce speed off down the road. Michael turned around towards Amber. “You’re not safe here, we need to leave now. More will be coming!” Michael took his sword and stabbed the vampire which was lay on the floor next to the door, and turned instantly to dust.
“Vampires? What the hell! Amber, what’s going on here?”
Sara began to shake from shock, not understanding what was going on around her.
“Michael, here is, well he’s-,” Began Amber before Michael cut in.
“I’m an ex angel. And if we don’t leave right now we will all be killed!” Michael began to walk round the house picking up various objects, food and clothing and shoving them into one of Sara’s shopping bags. “We need to move now!” said Michael as he gently pushed Amber and Sara out of the house towards the white metro parked outside while carrying the shopping bags.
Amber fumbled with the keys and began to open the left passenger door and climbed in.
“You’ll need to drive?” said Michael to Amber who was now scooting over the gear stick onto the driver’s seat. Michael raised an eye brow. “What are you doing?”
“I am driving; someone broke the driver’s side door handle. This is the only way to get into the car!” said Amber as she put the key into the ignition, praying that it started first time. Sara climbed into the back seat with Tink, and Michael sat upfront next to Amber. The car started with a chug, and Amber began to drive while Michael directed her.
“Ok, would you both like to explain what the Hell is going on here?” said Sara who was still shaking from the attack. Amber looked into the rear view mirror at Sara who was sat on the back seat, holding Tinker bell.
“I. I don’t know what to say.” Said Amber as she glanced back onto the road “All I know is that I’ve been having those weird dreams, the ones I told you about. Then today I got attacked on the street by some demon creature and I fought it. I did things I never would have been able to imagine. I killed it and it turned to dust! Then this guy was standing there, saying he was an angel or ex angel, whatever the hell he said. You came home and, the house got attacked. Apparently I’m some sort of weapon of God, and have been chosen to fight in the final war against these creatures! and that my dreams, were not dreams, but of things that are yet to come.” Amber’s eyes turned watery, but she tried to stay strong, for Sara but also for herself.
Sara’s gaze went to Michael “And your an ex angel?” said Sara, her eyes wide with shock. “Michael?” Michael looked out of the passenger window, refusing to meet Amber’s or Sara’s gaze. “You would know me better as Archangel” he said, sadness filling his voice. “But not anymore.” Rain pelted the car windows so it was difficult to see, but Amber could have swore that she saw something like a tear run down Michaels face in the reflection of the glass.
“You need to go left here, then the next right.” Said Michael “Go on until you see a picture of a white dove, then you stop!” Amber pulled up at the old abandoned church, with an old decrepit sign made of wood hanging on the wall outside. It had a blue background and a picture of a dove on it. The paint flaking like it had been there for decades.
“Here?” said Amber, “We’re going to be safe here?”
Michael got out on the car and stretched his legs, cracking his neck from side to side. The streets were deserted and old barbed wire was tied to the surrounding walls of the building. “Nice,” said Amber as she got out of the car, followed by Sara and Tink.
“Follow me.” said Michael as he strode off towards the back of the abandoned building, eyes wide sniffing the air for any unwanted intruders. He walked up to an old wooden style door. It looked like something out of an old horror movie. He stepped up onto the step and knocked twice. A small slat opened, revealing two turquoise eyes. Then it shut, and the large door opened with a creek, revealing the most beautiful woman that Amber had ever seen. She was around 5 ft 5 with the most dazzling eyes, the colour of tourmaline stone, her skin the colour of fresh cream, and her hair was amber, it was flowing around her oval face, settling on her shoulders.
“Thank the heavens, Michael you have returned, and with the chosen,” said Gabriel as she opened the door allowing Michael and the others inside the building.
Inside the building it thankfully looked in better shape than the exterior. It was warm; there was a small electric heater near the far wall of the church and sleeping bags on the floor not far from the heater. It looked like they had been staying here for a while. The church hall looked like it was in need of attention, there were broken pieces of marble on the floor, and the altar was in disrepair. Amber noticed a statue lying on the floor near what was once the altar. A statue what looked like once was an angel. Although now it had a wing and half of the face missing. As Amber turned around she noticed there was a small wooden chair near the door, and as Amber looked at the walls she noticed various weapons, knifes, daggers, swords, spears, bows, arrows and guns.
“Nice collection,” Said Amber as she walked along the hall. The more she looked the more this place looked like a training facility; they had manikins, punch bags, hand held jab pads, weights.
“What is this place?” breathed Amber. “It looks like a gym,”
“It’s a training room; we’ve been expecting you for quite some time, Amber,” said Gabriel as she walked towards her.
“How do you know who I am?” asked Amber as she looked at Gabriel.
“I’m sorry, I forgot to introduce myself, I’m, Gabriel and we’ve been waiting for this day for a very long time, Amber. We prepared this hall to aid in your training, to teach you how to fight against the forces of evil,” Gabriel moved around Amber looking her up and down. “You look so much like your mother,” she said as she stared into Ambers eyes. “You have the same face,” She said with a smile, “But you have your father’s eyes,” she whispered as she touched Ambers cheek, the same way she did when she held Amber as a new born baby.
“You knew my Father?” Asked Amber.
“Yes, I knew your father, so did, Michael,” she said as she looked over to Michael who was talking to Sara and petting Tinker bell trying to comfort her. “You father was a great man, Amber who loved you very much. He died trying to protect your mother from the grips of one of the fallen, he made, Michael and myself, vow to protect you and your mother at all costs. We tried to save your mother, but when a vampire bites it is irreversible for a human and death follows shortly afterwards. Michael, and I was patrolling that night when your mother was bitten. Michael blames himself for not being at her side, but there had been several attacks on humans and we wanted to save as many lives as we could. It was a trick, they did it so that we would leave your mother unprotected, they did it to try and kill you. Since that night, Michael, has taken it upon himself to make sure you are properly trained, so that you will stand a good fighting chance, when the time comes.”
Gabriel stepped back and smiled at Amber, then returned to Michael and Sara who were sat on the sleeping bags on the floor, talking about the events of the day and what was going to happen next. Amber couldn’t believe any of this. She had woken up that morning like she did every other day, she was a normal girl, who had a normal job; well who had, had a normal job and now she was this chosen being, with the responsibility of saving mankind.
“What’s a chosen?” Asked Amber as she walked over to the others as they sat near the small heater “I mean, what am I exactly? You said you knew my farther, was he the same as me?” said Amber as she sat down next to Sara and Tink. Gabriel looked at Michael for him to give her the answer.
“Your half angel a Nephilim, your father was an angel. God sent him to your mother so she could bear a child that was part both worlds.” replied Michael as he put some chicken strips over the small gas camping cooker.
“His name was, Uriel, he had power over fire. His eyes were just like yours.” Michael leaned back refusing to make eye contact with Amber “He was a great warrior and a good friend,”
“So do you think I have some kind of power over fire as well, I mean what can I do?” said Amber as she looked from Michael to Gabriel.
“We do not know, Amber you are not a full angel and we have never met a Halfling whom has not been cursed before. If God has willed this, then your powers could be unspeakable, but we do not know. What we do know is that you are not alone, there are other Nephilim hidden all around the globe preparing for the great battle and that when you all come together against the dark Lord, Satan. Then the fate of the world will be decided.” Gabriel patted Amber on the back gently, making small circles like that of a mother would whilst trying to comfort her.
“You won’t be alone in the battle,” Began Michael as he looked up meeting Ambers gaze, “We will fight until the very end at your side. Until judgement day,” Michael leaned forward turning over the pieces of chicken ensuring they did not get burned, and then leaned back again. “You should get your rest tonight,” said Michael “Because tomorrow your training will begin.”
