The Girl...

The bell rang. There were three loud short bursts; this signalled the end of the morning’s lessons. The girl was full of fear and foreboding. Tension was rising up deep within the tiny recesses of her unformed mind. Mechanically the girl began to slowly shut down. Tiny little pearls of moisture were dancing the tango over every inch of her body. The syncopated rhythmic footwork of the pearls were in a very close embrace. Almost gymnastic with their lifts, kicks and drops. The girl began to swoon and softly sway.
As the perspiration cocooned her in the most partisan way she began to tremble. Her breathing became laboured as she gasped for air. Desperately she tried to contain the cacophony which permeated her very being. Difficult choices now had to be made.
Does she:
a) Get up from her chair now and try to blend in with the Others leaving the room. This is a tried and tested method which on a few occasions she has passed off quite well. But it also does contain the risk of being noticed.
b) Do not get up from the chair. Do not try to blend in. Wait until the Others have left. This is the safest option but does contain the risk of the Leader noticing her. Then questions will be asked.
The girl knows that a choice has to be made and it has to be made now. She inhales intensely as a mist clouds her vision. Her legs feel heavy as she tries to stand. Objects around her are shrouded in a kind of smoke. Heart is racing. Mouth is tingling.
Synchronisation is imminent as balance and posture assimilate.
One Step
Two Step
Three Step
Four Step
The girl is now calm and controlled; and as she steps outside of herself we softly hear the door close.
