FULL MOON

The silver light
Of full moon bright
Fights off the night-time dark,
It weaves a shroud
On leaves that cloud
The trees that crowd the park.
Within its gleam
The babbling stream
Seems from crystal hewn,
Fragmented glass
Upon the grass
Appears as diamonds strewn.
Beneath its glow
A fox slinks low
Then slow draws near its prey,
A violent kill
Then all is still
She will not starve this day.
Upon a lake
Its magic breaks
And makes a shimmering trail,
As it guides my feet
Down a lamp-less street
Its glow begins to fail.
So comes the dawn
A new day's born
Its work for now is done,
Its silver light
Pushed back the night
But could not fight the sun.
