Jolly Adventure

A jolly adventure begins the day we let go of control, it’s extremely difficult to undertake because of the sacrifice on your part, but please have faith in the jolly adventure. To understand the motives behind the jolly adventure you must be pretty disappointed in life, which most of us at some point are. Fact is in this modern world there isn’t much purpose, well there is, but consumerism and capitalism are clouding the righteous path. It was a sweltering day mid July when I first found my calling, I had been walking out and about through the glorious heather along the north Yorkshire moors, the sun was heading low and the light was reflecting a most rusty outlook, I pondered hard about the colours and the natural beauty of what was surrounding me, and it wasn’t long before I was day dreaming of running off to live in the woods like a little animal, maybe a squirrel or an owl.
After a few moments of this seemingly pointless pursuit I looked up and realised I was at the edge of a cliff, I decided I would like to step into the next world and see what is really beyond death. That was it, I was plunging down then splat, or at least I think it was splat, because the fall never ended. I imagined I must be dead, but I could still think and I could still feel, I had no body but I was aware of one.
All around me is just darkness, not quite black but definitely darkness, like a never ending tunnel, this continued on for a very long time, after a while I didn’t even feel like a was falling, time just continued, or at least I think it did, every now and then I would try and stretch out my arms but they weren’t actually there anymore, instead just a form of light streamed out towards the edge of the darkness, illuminating all along its path, then it would bounce off the edge of the tunnel and evaporate into the wall, I wondered how long this fall would take or how my body was doing back in the earthly realm, then I started to remember all those I had left behind and if I would ever see them again. Time dragged on and still all I could muster up was flashes of light streaming out from my central point. Was this it? The great life after death; a never ending tunnel of freefalling, well I wish I hadn’t bothered now I thought to myself. Then boom, the sound of a thunderous crash, and a voice spoke, mocking me, “so you wish you hadn’t bothered, an adventurer you call yourself, well you look just like the rest of those sad bastards feeling sorry for themselves because they weren’t born in a position of material riches, just another worm from earth” I tried to find the source of the voice but nothing, I remained silent, no thoughts no nothing hoping to catch a glimpse of something, then it spoke again, “its no good trying to empty your mind and hide now, its over sunshine, bang, bottom of the barrel, you had your chance and you wasted it, jumped off the edge, bit to much for you was it?” Still I remained silent. There was nothing around me, no movements no signs, was this voice coming from within me I thought, “yes you fool, of course I’m coming from within you, where else would I come from, you removed yourself from all other life the moment you jumped, now your just left with yourself, which includes me” “But how can you be you when I’m me, and how can you speak from within me? Is this not madness” “correct your completely bonkers, well you would have to be wouldn’t you” “Yes it seems so” I paused all thought and just placed an image in my mind, no narrative just a frozen image, a monkey puzzle tree standing as tall as the highest building with every animal upon the earth living in different parts of its branches, all different species walking through the leaves, the trunk covered with carved wooden steps leading all the way to the top. The prickly pine like needles twisting out into spirals, with droplets of water on the tips, but each one containing thousands of species of sea creature microscopic yet unimaginable in size, a complete contradiction to the laws of physics, then suddenly the image shattered like a mirror smashed with a sledge hammer dropping into a million pieces on the tunnel floor before me, each piece emitting bright shining light forming a perfect rainbow of fragmented glass, the image completely transformed into the most beautiful random act of natural performance, then without warning everything began slowing down, the walls around me started warping in and out, I could hear voices getting louder changing pitch and speed, as if a tape was being chewed up, the light was bouncing around my vision and louder and louder they grew, everything around me began to be distorted, then in an instance of unbelievable magic I opened my eyes and I was sitting on the floor next to the cliff. Had I fallen asleep and dreamt it all I pondered to myself whilst I became orientated. It would seem so, indeed my jolly adventure would require great insight for which I have none, however I do have hope, I have the memory of the rainbow and the tunnel of darkness, so when my adventure does go sour, I know that its not the end.
