The Angel's Silence 34

It was now 9:14 AM, and most were awake, all except for Rayna, who was asleep on a chair in the waiting room.

Maya was awake, and feeling better than she did the day before.

Doctor's were pleased, but of course could not let her go home, all though she did ask many times.

She seemed to finally be getting her apatite back.

She was getting some color back to her face, and seemed to be in better spirits.

She asked one of the nurses to find Rayna for her. Rayna was confused.

She walked into the room, and Maya's face lit up.

This seemed to make Rayna very angry.

"What's wrong, Ray?"

"How can you ask me that after last night?"

"After last night? What happened last night?"

"You have got to be kidding me... You blow up in my face, and don't even remember it? You're pathetic!"

"I'm pathetic? Look, I'm sorry for whatever it is that I did or said, but you should be happy that I am feeling better."

"I am happy, but I also have to worry about Dad. Which is what you should be doing, too."

She then walked out of the room. Needless to say, Maya was no longer in good spirits.

Elena was washing the dishes when she received a phone call.

She was reluctant to answer it because of the creepy call from the night before.

However, she choose to answer it anyway, which turned out to be a mistake.

It was the hospital telling her that they were short staffed, and needed her to come in.

It was supposed to be her day off. She didn't complain, though.

This meant that she would get to see Antanas and Mariya couldn't do anything about it.

As soon as she arrived, Mariya noticed her, and was infuriated. She knew she was a nurse, but didn't know she worked there.

"Nice to see you again, Mariya. You look nice today."

Said Elena, trying to get in Mariya's good books.

However, Mariya didn't buy it. But there were a lot of people around, and she didn't want to make a scene, so she chose to take the easy road and be nice. All though, she was going to keep a close eye on her.

"I just want to apologize to you about yesterday. I was just really upset with everything going on, and lost my temper."

"Oh, that's all right. I understand. I hope things will be Okay between us."

"Yes, I would like that, too."

Lied Mariya as she stepped away.

Elena knew she was lying, she could see it in her eyes.

John had finally awoken. Doctors were telling him that he needed to get up, and start walking.

There was the fear that his blood would start clotting if he didn't. The only thing that was on his mind was Adamo. He told police about him, but they were no help. Most didn't even believe that he existed.

Why would an officer of the law illegally look after a child? Why didn't he called social services? These were the questions that everyone asked him.

Elena was thrilled when she assigned to Antanas' room. Mariya did not know this because she walked out of the building to call Rayna.

"Rayna?"

Asked Mariya

"I'm here. How is Dad?"

She answered

"His condition hasn't changed much since last night. How is Maya?"

"She seems to be feeling better today. She's in a better mood then she has been."

"I told you she would come around. Can I talk to her?"

"I'll ask the doctor's if that is alright."

The doctor's said she was Okay to talk, so Mariya called the phone in her room.

"Hey, Maya. How are you feeling?"

"I am feeling much better today than yesterday."

"That's good. I'm so happy."

"Well, at least someone is."

"What do you mean?"

"I don't think Rayna cares if I am better or not. Actually, I think she would prefer it if I wasn't here."

"Don't say that! Your sister loves you."

"I'm beginning to think that isn't true."

"What did she do now?"

"I asked one of the nurses to go get her for me, so I could speak to her, but she wasn't interested in hearing it. She yelled at me, and stormed out."

"Oh, she's just going through that immature teenage stage. She'll come around eventually."

"Yeah, well if she doesn't come around soon, I might have to move out."

"That's a little extreme, don't you think?"

"She has just become impossible to get along with. I can't even believe that she is the same girl that I used to be such good friends with. We had so much fun together. Now I don't know her anymore."

What Maya didn't realize is Rayna was just outside of the door listening to her every word. This made her very angry.
