Trolls and Witches and Old Grey Wolves

There once was this little boy,
and he was lost in the woods
He wandered trail after trail,
he was so scared
These were the days of Trolls and Witches and Old Grey Wolves
He so tiny, swallowed up by the enormous trees,
with vines hanging from them
As he walked,,,
There was a girl, and she saw the little boy
Her heart broke for this boy with a dirty face,
with streaks of clean skin from the tracks of his tears
Quickly, she darted from her safe home,
and took the little boy by the hand,
and led him to her safe haven
She cleaned him up, and fed him
Later, she heard him say his parents
had been gobbled up by the men from the North
She took him as her own,
and she loved him
She was so lonely
As weeks turned to months, to years,
the little boy flourished from her care
He grew to be handsome,
and she knew, she loved him
She watched as he hunted with spears,
and set traps, turn over rocks, and climb trees
So curious was he
And he whistled the most beautiful tune,
it was sure delight as he did,
yet, she noticed, each day he strayed
further and further from home
She would listen for his song,
so she could be free
She, much wiser than he,
lived with the bitter knowledge that one day,
she must set him free
Then one day, the whistle did not come
And she prayed to God that he was safe
She wept, for she loved him so,
forever changed, yet glad for having
known him
