The Sin

LIfe, like silver, gets tarnished,
nothing we have is pure gold.
When we sin as we do, we spoil it
with deeds and the lies that are told.
Ripples in a pool those sins spread,
from a word or a deed lightly cast.
The punishment spreads to others,
but take comfort; this too cannot last.
Innocents caught in the ripples
are shamed by their sinners' lot.
They carry part of the blame and try
to put right the wrong they did not.
And when the memories are blunted
and the sinner forgiven, or not;
and life goes on as a river flows;
a few sins are never forgot.
