Writing doggerel
I like to sit and write in rhyme
And most of the time
I think I’m quite successful
But I often find my mind goes blank and then I can’t find the rhyme I want.
Now what’s a good rhyme for successful?
This writing is getting very stressful
When it really should be oh so simple
Now I’m finding it difficult to think of a suitable word that rhymes with simple.
Yes I can, what about ‘pimple’?
This is getting worse and worse
I think I’ll give up writing it’s becoming quite a curse
To try and find an ending rhyme for every single verse.
Then there’s trying to get the rhythm right and fit the correct number of words into the last line of each part of the poem that I’m currently working on.
Oh bother!
Even doggerel’s not easy, the words just seem to come and go
Getting them in order isn’t effortless you know
They must be chosen carefully
And written down just so.
So that’s the way I do it
The result usually pleases me
But what about my readers?
I’ll just have to wait and see.
