Reality Show

We used to listen to the priests
but now just take the piss.
These days we fall upon our knees
for the quantum physicists.

They say we must accept that
what seems real’s not worth a damn,
for we’re all just made of numbers
in a cosmic hologram.

Of course it sounds quite crazy
and against all common sense
but these clever people tell us
that they’ve got the evidence.

Equations on a blackboard
are the new religious texts
and we must all believe them,
its what the scientist expects.

You and I are just projections
from outside the Universe
and the Quantum Beast prowls with us
from the cradle to the hearse.

The Quantum Beast runs everything
and nothing’s what it seems
and what you think you see or touch
is no more real than dreams

A shy beast is the Quantum,
it much prefers the dark.
Try to watch it do its business
and its gone quick as a quark.

How does it tell we’re looking?
That’s what I’d like to know.
Does someone whisper in its ear
that it’s time for it to go?

Oh wouldn’t it be funny
and wouldn’t it be odd
if the keeper of the Quantum Beast
should turn out to be God?
