A week with Peter 13/17

There was a small hole in the wall right up near the ceiling. This gave just enough light for the children to look round their prison. One chair, a table and a bed were the only furniture. A shelf on the door just under a closed slot was obviously intended for passing through food. The door itself was very solid and had been firmly bolted shut.
“I suppose this is what your friend Esmerelda meant when she said you were in danger from a witch?”
“I’m not too worried,” replied Jennifer Jane, “I’m sure Abigail will be able to find me when she realises we’ve gone missing. Still I think we ought to have a go at getting ourselves out before then. Have you still got that linear thingummy in your pocket?”
Peter produced his gadget.
“How about putting it on your foot and kicking the door down?”
Peter looked at the gadget and shook his head.
“No good I’m afraid, if it did work I’d probably break my foot, but it won’t work anyway because there’s not enough light in here and it’s not charged up.”
At Jennifer Jane’s suggestion they both sat down and tried to think of ways to escape.
An hour later the witch who’d kidnapped them, came to put some bread and water through the slot in the door and saw them both asleep.
She grinned nastily to herself, “It’ll take a good long while before anyone finds them here. No magic to give them away and I don’t suppose anybody knows where they went today.”
