Derek walked downstairs. The Jazz music floated all around him. It sounded delicious.
He sat himself down in front of the tv with the few others who had no friends.
"Derek, is it?"
He turned around and saw an attractive Korean girl.
"Yes."
"I've heard so much about you. Can I talk to you?"
"Sure."
They moved to a quieter place.
"So you're the Korean genius."
"Well, not really."
"You're humble."
"No. I know what geniuses have achieved."
"Can I be frank with you?"
"Yes."
"Would you like some saki?"
"Sure."
The saki was very delicate and fruity.
"It's very good."
"I'm just having a very hard time writing this essay. You see, I came here straight from a top Korean Middle School and how should I say this... English is not the easiest language in the world and the essay is due on Tuesday."
"I can't write your essay."
"Why not? Won't you help a fellow Korean?"
"It would be dishonest."
"It would just be this one time. I promise."
She looked like a good person. May be he should help her. It was unethical, but...
"Ok. Just this once."
"Derek. Thank you so much. You know how much expectation Korean parents have. I've tried so hard, but... thank you."
Derek felt horrible about himself. He had given in so easily.
