Tomorrow, Now, and Back Then

Note: These are poems I had to write for writing camp; the theme was yesterday, today, tomorrow or what it meant to us. These poems are told from a character in one of my stories who was fighting in a supernatural battle, but it could fit in today's wars, too, kind of.
Poem - Yesterday - Written June 13, 2011
Ah, yesterday,
it was good and fun
but here I am
on the run.
The days are rough,
the nights even more,
and I miss those days
that time I adore.
Everyone is fighting now,
farewell to yesterday,
all those lazy, happy thoughts,
oh how they hold sway.
The line between right and wrong
has become so faint and blurred;
I fear I am losing myself in this mess
of all that has occurred.
Hopefully I'll find myself again
and yesterday will be restored,
but confidence has been broken
and it's hard to be self-assured.

Poem - Today - Written June 13, 2011
Ah, the present,
the here and now,
where we all seem to
be taking a bow.
The game isn't over,
the show isn't on pause,
but we all stand here defeated,
like it's a lost cause.
Who goes there in the shadows?
Are you friend or foe?
Cruel, wicked or kind?
How are we to know?
It feels like the world's gone crazy
in this land of today;
people dying left and right,
no matter what they say.
Are we all crazy?
Are we all good?
If we'd only see clearly;
If we only could.
The war is continuing,
the people shout;
the air is thickening
and full of doubt.
Will we win?
Will we lose?
Why can't we be friends,
or can we even choose?
today is one day
in a row of many,
but one of these days could be the end,
just one day or any.
But today in the present
was stay where we are,
together and apart,
both near and far.

Poem - Tomorrow - Written June 13, 2011
Today might look blue
but the future is bright
so push away the darkness
and look toward morning's light.
The world may seem insane,
and maybe even yourself as well,
but don't give up on everything
and in darkness don't you dwell.
The future is always uncertaink
but don't give up hope, my friend;
it's not over 'til it's overk
and it's not over 'til the end.
Stay strong and
keep hoping;
don't quit and
sit here moping.
Stand up, stand proud
and fight,
fight for yourself,
do what's right.
For today, tomorrow,
for now and back then,
look toward the future,
and be yourself again.
