The Beach at Dark

The skies turn black
while the Moon appears high above all the stars.
And all who sleep heavily awake from?
From the darkened night that
Falls over the Earth.
Feet dig deep into the sand,
while hands nervously pull grass out of the ground
The ocean caresses the legs that rest
Five feet from the drop off into
the deepened waters.
A few eyes stare up at the stars
that swirl into the mix of
late night airplanes and lightning bugs.
Tonight, humans yearn for the freedom
of being a bird on this most
wonderful of nights.
Glancing over at the horizon,
I catch a glimpse of a dolphin jumping
Up into the night air
As the sun peeks out
Over the few clouds passing in front of it.
While the sun rises up,
the moon disappears behind viewers
as the night dissolves into day…
And the darkness is gone…
Just like that…
