the river of life

Look not upon the sun today
as my heart has froze in the night
thawing beads a swirling wreath
upon my cold forehead.
Where i walked now I skate upon a deep river
awash with the bodies of the destitute
frozen in socially incorrect positions
anguish and sorrow rippling blue steel
tears down black furrows in hollow cheeks
I dare not stare too long or stop
lest I lose hope in life's better ends
I glide up river on stiff legs past
broken dreams and under black death bridges
in search of the source of such icy mayhem
lying like sacrifices to a better world
under the shifting clouds of a changing mold
time reverses as I get farther from the madness
Clear waters fish trees life warmth
now I'm walking again on pistons of speed
happiness hits me like a slap in the face as I reach the waterfalls of the gods
I drink the nectar and vision clears
reason pushes past greed and self
Staring into the pool I spot a rising ship
full of the ancestors of past scholars and kings
I bow and enter as they head downstream
to war to war once more, they lead.
