TOTAL ECLIPSE

The crystal temple of this day is fair to look upon
As the Moon, like an ebon bride, climbs ether stairways to the Sun.
His love for her is blue and gold
Like the watching world she has cloaked in shadow;
_ _ _ _ Darkling sky,
_ _ _ _ Departing light,
_ _ _ _ Noonday and evening side by side!
In the shimmer and the shade, who knows what promises are made?
He gives her his diamond ring at the altar of the stars -
_ _ _ _ And held is a thousand years;
_ _ _ _ A lifespan,
_ _ _ _ A heartbeat and one breath ........
But the planet turns
And she must follow the errands of Time the orbits run:
Swifter than angel wings she steals his pearly crown
_ _ _ _ And hurries on,
_ _ _ _ Fleeing the spellbound darkness
_ _ _ _ Of steel-dark hills.
Then across the dreaming clouds she casts her bright bouquet
As down to the reverent Earth cascade the tears of light;
_ _ _ _ And the wonder
_ _ _ _ And the stillness
_ _ _ _ And the shadows chase away.
