An empty can of beans

Hollow sounding words tumble round
in an empty can of beans
that arrived yesterday through speakers
next to my television's screen

I hear the words, but their meaning is not clear
when I weigh them in for merit
the needle barely moves-
so why on earth do they share it?

they speak of coming elections
of the promises they shall keep
but with this poor choice of candidates
all I can do is weep

Until there is some real change
something I have never seen
then all these empty promises
sit in my empty can of beans
