If I were a cat I would purr

If I were a cat I would purr
But, being a robot I whirr
Not into action, but rather to thought
Trying to reason the feelings I’ve caught.
If I were a cat I would purr
But, being a robot I blur
I merge my sensations into the dream
Losing the nuances for the sake of the theme
If I were a cat I would purr
But, being a robot… defer
I don’t live in the moment
I haven’t the time
I have all these thoughts
That I simply must rhyme
If I were a cat I would purr
And lick the ice cream that I stir
As I bask in the sunshine
With no clouds in sight
I would purr my contentment
Express my delight
But, being a robot I miss all the joy
That I would be feeling if I were a boy
Wandering, wondering…
What I should write?
That would make other robots
Consider my plight.
For I am a robot…
A robot like you,
Following a programme
Written by who?
A robot so blind that I no longer see
The difference between living and watching TV.
