THE QUEST FOR EL-DORADO
By Indrani Ananda
- 1181 reads
Over the Heaven-dreaming moon;
Down through the canyons deep in shadow;
- - "Fly, swiftly fly," came the call of the sky,
- - "If you seek for El-Dorado."
Over the leagues of listless sand;
Over the lonely rocky plateau;
- - "Ride, quickly ride," how the wild Earth cried,
- - "If you seek for El-Dorado."
Down through fair valleys of the hills;
Over each rainbow-patterned meadow;
- - "Run, boldly run," like the light of the sun,
- - "If you seek for El-Dorado."
Down through forbidden mines of gold,
Rising, the purple Dawn to follow;
- - "Go, lightly go," sighed the whispering snow,
- - "If you seek for El-Dorado."
Over the feather-silvered clouds,
Down through the gateway of tomorrow;
- - "Flee, ever flee," on the tides of the sea,
- - "If you seek for El-Dorado."
Over the threshold of a dream,
Far from the distant lands of sorrow;
- - "Search not in vain," came the sound of the rain,
- - "If you seek for El-Dorado,"
Far to the cities of the sun,
Down through the jewel-glistening grotto -
- - "Wait! mortal, wait! at the earthcrystal gate -
- - 'Ere you enter El-Dorado."
