THE ORGAN

she'd played the organ all her life
sheet music she had read
but couldn't wait to replicate
the music in her head
she'd close her eyes and there it was
the notes would deftly dance
the song she heard required no words
the language was romance
the tune concerned the sun and moon
the melody their sound
of life so sad, yet hopes so glad
that fate would come around
like ships that passed without a glimpse
the sun would end it's song
just as the moon began to croon
when evening came along
but she had also dealt with fate
just like celestial jewels
disease, unplanned, had stilled her hands
and left them useless tools
her organ sat so mutely grim
as if to cruelly mock
the only sounds that could be found
was ticking from the clock
so now she loathed the instrument
that filled her once with pride
she made a call and had it hauled
unto the curb outside
the organ was now orphan-like
locked out despite it's keys
it's player bowed and silent now
because of her disease
the sun rose in the eastern sky
at first with just a tease
but then a shaft of sunlight laughed
across the organ's keys
what came forth was a melody
although no hand was laid
the fingers of the sun above
were dancing as they played
inside the house the woman woke
and cocked her head askance
it seemed absurd but what she heard
was her song of romance
the sun was calling to the moon
and begging for a waltz
the woman rose and donned her clothes
and said "this must be false"
for no one knew her melody
it slept inside her soul
but there it played, a serenade
that someone surely stole
she stuck her head outside the door
the scene there made her freeze
the sun threw rays and music played
upon the organ's keys
she knew it well before it played
it's every rise and fall
a gentle sigh, a sudden cry
the moon, the sun did call
the tune began a second time
this time she hummed aloud
the song was done just as the sun
was swallowed by a cloud
and there was no repetition
for the sun was firmly ducked
but safe inside, the tune now lie
each nuance safely tucked
but the magic wasn't over
there was more left of the tune
she knew for sure it would occur
when later came the moon
and she was not disappointed
for the moon had heard the call
the sun had made in serenade
and rose up bright and tall
it started out quite slowly
then the melody took flight
in vivid streams the shiny beams
made music in the night
it was entrapped inside her mind
as loudly now she hummed
its not the hands, she understands
that makes the beauty come
for music comes from deep within
the mind, the heart, the soul
though fingers fail, the spirit wails
for this, no flesh controls
