THE GREEN HILLS OF EARTH
By Indrani Ananda
- 897 reads
See the spaceships come and go
Close-binding worlds together;
Whence they travel who can know
Upon the green hills of Earth
- - -Where winter's flown and the spring is sown
- - -And summer will be golden;
- - -I so long to walk again
- - -Upon the green hills of Earth.
See the shadows creeping fast
Upon the rust of Martian plains;
Feel the loneliness of the dust
Far from the green hills f Earth.
..... And the sun on rainbowed wings
Across the black sky sweeping,
Cleaving Saturn's silver rings
Far from the green hills of Earth.
See the sands of the Milky Way,
Shimmering desolation;
Night lamenting for the day
Far from the green hills of Earth.
..... And the path of Jupiter -
How are the mighty fallen!
Chilled in an orbit so silent here
Far from the green hills of Earth.
Count the stars through this metal wall
Bright with planets sparkling;
I would sacrifice them all
To see the green hills of Earth.
I left a girl with loving eyes
Far behind me, waiting;
Lonely as the moon she cries
Upon the green hills of Earth
- - -Where winter's flown and the spring is sown,
- - -And summer will be golden;
- - -I so long to walk again
- - -Upon the green hills of Earth;
- - -I so long to walk again upon the green hills of Earth.
