she loved him but refused to be the one to say it first
but longed to see the day and in her mind she had rehearsed
but it was not forthcoming so she figured she must coax
that trio of sweet words that women loved to hear the most

she cooked his favorite dinner, it was lovingly prepared
then cocktails on the love seat that they happily both shared
she raised a simple question with one eyebrow raised above
"would you tell me please about the things in life you love ?"

he answered "i love unicorns" and gave her quite a start
almost sounded like "i love you" but then quickly fell apart
he then said "i love eulogies respecting the deceased"
"and yes i love euphoniums, so musically a feast"

each time she felt a flutter rising up inside her throat
but was he merely teasing her ? just out to get her goat ?
he said "i love utensils for without them we'd be lost"
"and also i love uvulas, those mouthy membranes tossed"

she started to get angrier, this surely was some joke
he stated "i love unicycles, such a joy", he spoke
he said "i love uranium, what power it must hold"
and added "i love yuletide carols sung out in the cold"

"and i love universities and i love yucatan"
"and yes, i love 'eureka ! ', its the motto of my land
"i love euphemisms, fun with wordplay's a delight
he added "i love eunuchs, for that's such a sad sad plight

"and i love eucalyptus, for its such an earthy smell"
she grit her teeth and asked him what he might have loved as well
he said "oh, i love eunice" then she really got inflamed
for her name was priscilla, twas her sister he had named
