1st Verse:

The bonobo blew the oboe
while the chimpanzee played kazoo
and the kangaroo and koala did
a duet on the didgeridoo.

2nd Verse:

The flamingo played flamenco
rhythms on his old guitar
while the pangolin plucked his mandolin
and Amanda sang like a star.

Chorus:

It was Amanda, the Panda bear
and her incredible, animal band
that all the birds and beasts came out to hear,
they were the best band in the land.

3rd Verse:

A Penguin played the piano
while a yak moaned on saxophone,
a rhinoceros played the horn of course
with an elephant on slide trombone.

4th Verse:

The Pelicans sang a cappella
while the bebop bees buzzed and hummed
elegant gazelles played their cellos
while a baboon banged on the drums.

Chorus:

It was Amanda, the Panda bear
and her incredible, animal band
that all the birds and beasts came out to hear,

Thanks, Blessing. I was watching the Ken Burns documentary Jazz and I really wanted to write an animal band song that was sort of a hip and bohemian free-for-all with animals of all kinds playing odd instruments. Glad you enjoyed it.

Great. One of my favourite authors is Julia Donaldson. We've loved reading her books to the kids at bedtime. This is on a par with hers. Which is a real compliment.
