I did enjoy myself at 99% Wicked. The lessons could be a little boring sometimes, but I always looked forward to the evenings and the weekends, which I always enjoyed with my new best friends. Singe and Torch, or the Venom Twins as we called them, could be a little trying, always snitching on us to the teachers if we forgot to do our homework, which they only ever knew about because Singe shared a dormitory with poor Red Star, Ruby and Smoke. Torch was another girl in our year. A beastly bully of a girl. Where Singe was really snooty, and thought she was better than everyone else, Torch lived on other peoples' misery, and loved grassing people up. We reckon the Venom Twins only became friends because nobody else liked them. More like partners in crime rather than best friends. Singe and Torch were always rifling through Red Star, Ruby and Smokes' stuff whenever they came to the dorm I shared with Ginger and the twins. I did suggest they bring their bags with them. They did the once, and got told off, as we were only ever allowed to carry our bags around during lesson time.
Anyway, I got through each day, and it really surprised me when Red Star worked out one night we'd been at the school for a few weeks.
"Wow, time really flies when you're having fun, doesn't it?" Ginger mused.
"Yeah, especially when you share a bedroom with snotty Singe," Red Star pointed out. "And she keeps rifling through all our bags. Grrr!"
"It's a pity we can only use our bags during lessons," I said.
"Why don't we start spending time in your room?" Flame suggested. "Then that way, they won't be able to. In fact, they'd probably refuse to be in that room if we're all there."
"Yeah, but knowing Singe, she'd probably whinge to Miss Burnout that we're all bullying her into not being allowed in her own room," Ruby pointed out.
At that moment, like a bad smell, there came a knock on the door. Fox answered it. Standing there, with big, sneering grins on their faces, were the Venom Twins.
"We've just been through your bags again," Singe giggled.
"Yeah, we found the hordes of sweets in the top drawer of your bedside table, Smoke," Torch sniggered.
"Guess what we did with it," Singe continued. "We ate it!"
"WHAT!" Smoke screamed at the pair of them. "That came in the post this morning, from Mum and Dad. It was a birthday present, for tomorrow. Why would you do that!"
Singe and Torch both laughed venomously, stuck their tongues out, and ran away down the corridor, giggling. Leaving poor Smoke wailing.
We all crowded around our upset friend, and hugged her.
"I hate them," she whimpered. "I hate the pair of them. Nasty, vicious thieves."
"Don't worry, Smoke," Ginger comforted. "My parents are always sending me loads of sweets. We'll have a party tonight, for you. And we'll have another party tomorrow, for your birthday."
"Thanks, Ginge," Smoke managed a weak smile.
"And you know what else," Red Star said. "I'm not letting the Venom Twins to get away with this. I'm not letting them upset my friend like that. I'm going to get even with them."
