Green Eyes

Chapter 1
Great! I pulled the bright blue backpack onto my shoulder, shoved my little sister Isabel out of the way, and dashed out the door. First day of school. The bus was probably already at the end of the street. As I sprinted forward my long light brown hair flowed behind me, some caught under the strap of my backpack. I pulled it loose as I lunged for the bus waving my hands wildly for it to stop. Slowly but surely the bus halted as the angry looking driver pulled the lever to the door. I stepped onto the yellow monster and headed to the back. Everyone's eyes lingered on me as if to say 'now were all going to be late thanks to you'.
I realized that one kid in particular was glaring at me. He was a tall boy with dark curly brown hair, and emerald green eyes that reflected of the sunlight shining through the dusty brown windows. He was probably in the eighth or ninth grade by the way he looked. And right about then was when he gave me one of those evil death glares. Stupid ninth graders I mumbled under my breath as I took a seat next to some curly blonde haired girl.
This would be my first day in the high school. In reality I was taking my first step in to the seventh grade doors. My school went from seventh to twelfth grade. A weird combination of the super little kids and the ones tall enough you wondered how they walked through their houses without bumping their heads on the ceiling a billion times a day.
The second I stepped off the bus I ran to my best friend Grace. "Sophia!" She exclaimed as I dodged all the other skyscraper freshman. "Gracie!" I replied as I pulled into a side hug. "Crap!" She said "I totally forgot my first period class!" I just laughed as we headed into the large new brick building. I left her at the first bell and headed for my class. Stepping into the room I took a seat nearest the back. I figured that if I wanted to daydream without the teacher noticing than I would just have to sit somewhere that I could be invisible, I liked that way. The final bell rang as I set my satchel on the floor. Mrs. Brooklyn looked our way smiled and with a curious glare in her eyes she said "Welcome to the seventh grade."
Chapter 2
"How was first period?" I badgered at Grace as she stumbled down the hall carrying her boatload of supplies for class. "Uh... In a nut shell? It sucked." "Good." I said in a joking kind of way I had brought it upon myself for her answer to be "I hope yours was a retched experience, and that it felt like a miserable nightmare, because you have to go back tomorrow as well." "Wonderful!" I said "thank you for asking!" She just rolled her crystal blue eyes, flipped her beautiful blonde hair, and jogged away from me as if to say that's enough.
The rest of the day was no better. All the same. Class after class after class. Nothing that I wouldn't expect. When I got back on the bus to go home however, it was not.
My brothers best friend Tristan sat down next to me when I got on. "Hey, Sophia" he said looking into my eyes. "Uh hmmm.... Hi?" I said a little bit creeped out. See Tristan had always hated me. So, when he sat down next to me it was a little weird.
Assuming weird was over for the day I sat back and turned on my I pod to listen to some One Direction songs. I was way wrong though. Right as I shoved the fat headphones into my ears Tristan looked my way, stretched and lifted his arm around my shoulder. "What the crap! Tristan!" I screamed as I shoved his arm over to normal position. "Chill..." Tristan said looking my way. "I just want to know what's wrong with you?" I said in a irritated voice. "Fourth grader." Tristan said. Okay, so what the crap are you doing sticking your arm around a fourth grader, ninth grader? Plus, I'm in the seventh grade boob! I said in my mind. In reality all I could get myself to say was "Fine Tristan, just leave me alone?" "Okay goodness, I didn't think that you were ever that sensitive..." Tristan replied. I rolled my eyes a few times and looked out at the landscape beyond the window, everything moving like a blur with my music blaring loud. This is the way that I liked it. No creepy Tristan boys sticking their arms around me. I could live in these moments of peace. Not in the abnormality of my brothers hatred friends.
Chapter 3
I stepped off the bus into the crisp warm summer sun. The blue sky's surrounded me as I walked slowly down the road to my house. Feeling wonderful I stepped inside. I got myself a glass of lemonade, ditching homework I sat on the front of the porch slowly rocking listing to my songs sipping my cool drink. What could be better? I thought. Thinking of all the great things that I would do if only it was still summer 2012. Perhaps it was for the better, lazy was fun, but it wasn't really something that I needed.
This winter I would start indoor volley ball, dance, tennis, and before the season ended soccer. I really liked sports, but time was limited and with all of these I wouldn't have very much of it anyway.
Ditching the thoughts I picked up my brand new cell phone and dialed Grace. As soon as she picked up I bombed her with a mountain of stupid questions. Such as "Hey Grace, what's up?!, oh never mind, so..., how was your first day of school?, can you believe summers already over? How do you plan of spending spring break? Can you wait for it!?" I didn't really get to finish my stupid questions before I released that she had already hung up on me. "Nah, screw her." I said under my breath as I shoved the white flip phone back in my pocket. I let out a deep sigh, and reluctantly headed back up my porch steps to the front of my house. Summer was just about to end. This was only the beginning of it.
I tried to relax. It was like nothing in the world could make me fall asleep that night. Tired was not an option. I needed my rest. School would be miserable if I didn't get any sleep. It had happened before.
One time in the 6th grade I fell asleep in math class. My teacher caught me, and told me that if it happened again she would report me to the office. Don't get me wrong I was a good student, and paid attention all the time. It's just that when I'm tired and my teachers are droning on and on about how you have to know what pi is and remember the formula for a quadrilateral shape, cylinder, and whatever else than I just can't help but close my eyes.
Although I am a good student I do have a problem daydreaming. Always to think about what's going to happen after class is over an during the weekend. I think it's useless to keep us locked up in a building learning about more than we need when I could be outside in the sun or snow with friends. So my points don't really matter. I just enjoy life and wish that I could live the best of it. The more of it that I can get, I figure the better.
Chapter 4
I groaned as I shoved the heavy metal door to my right and stepped in to the big brick building soaking wet. My straight brown hair dripping on the floor, my shoes squeaking with every single step I took. I looked to the ground wondering how much worse my day could get, or my year for that matter. With my mind as blank as a my piece of paper I set out for my classes. My day was a mystery. Nothing happening. Nothing going on to my surprise, however, Grace didn't seem to notice me. She was hanging out with a bunch of the other preppy girls in a corner near the side of the hallways. She didn't even bother to sit with me at lunch. If I did anything I figured it wouldn't be a big deal so I shrugged it off and went to hang out with some of my friends.
"Mae!" I exclaimed as I approached the group of girls I hadn't seen since last year. "Hey, Sophia!" She said using a hand to gesture me over. I smiled and walked closer. One of the new girls smiled and introduced herself. "Hey" she said. "My name is Kayla." I smiled politely and told her that I was Sophia. The conversation if course didn't last long because we only had five minutes in between periods. Once it ended the rest school was no big deal.
Walking up the steps onto the bus I sat next to a tall boy with dark curly brown hair. I ignored him at first and stuck my headphones into my ears. As soon as I did though, he tapped my shoulder and asked if he could get out. I stood up quickly and waited for him to move from the seat. He just hopped out, and with a loathe full look left. One thing I noticed about him was his green eyes. I watched him as he shifted through the isle and sat down in a seat with another seventh grader. He was the kid with the evil glare my first day on the bus. My mind just wandered. He didn't talk to the other kid. I guess he just didn't want to sit by me. Okay? I thought.
For some reason that night I couldn't stop thinking about the boy with the green eyes and dark hair. Why was he so hatred against me? I didn't do anything to him other than be a few seconds late for the bus ride. It was just a mystery that I thought I might never know. So, just to make myself feel better I whispered to myself "Fine. I don't like you either." I was so wrong.
Chapter 5
I sat on the bus. My hands tightly gripping my leather bound notebook. It held only what I needed to know for my writing classes. My teacher would never let me do creative writing, but she did allow me to keep a notebook for any story ideas or essays that I would have in the future. This is what I looked for as I waited for the big, smelly, yellow engine to pull up to the dirty, brown, brick building.
Hopping off the bus I dropped the notebook in a puddle near the side. As I blended down to get it, the green eyed boy picked it up and handed it to me. Before I could thank him...he was gone.
I was overwhelmed by the feeling that came to me next. A wanting of some kind. I wanted the boy to to come back. The ninth grade kid who picked up my book, the one who seemed to hate me. Some feeling that can't be described. It was like lying down on new mowed grass breathing in your surroundings birds songs in all directions. Soaking up the sun and feeling everything around you. Why? Why did I feel it for the boy who hated me? The one that wanted nothing to do with me. Who asked if he could get out of the seat just to get away from me. Almost like new something that I didn't.
I shook it all off and remained the rest of the day in silence, only speaking when asked to answer a question, or talked to by one of my new group of friends. Other than that I kept out of the way of everyone. Because for the first time in my whole entire life I had a new emotion of some kind. Those that you can't contain, and those you can't tell. It had to be kept a secret. Besides, in my mind...it was probably nothing.
Chapter 6
As I gazed out the window into the crystals blue sky, the bright yellow sun reflected a golden glow across the surface of my hazel brown eyes. I listened to the droning of my teachers instructions catching every word of it. I let it all sink in, I was determined to have a good day as well as pay attention.
When the final school bell rang I quickly grabbed everything on top of my binder and darted out the door. Collecting everything from my locker was a messy business and I needed to get out before the rush. All of the kids kept pushing into each other and headed down towards the busses. I tried to forget about everything that happened yesterday. I practiced by clearing my mind of all feelings and strange thoughts that had come. It seemed impossible. Every time I seemed to forget something would bring the beautiful curly dark hair into my head, or those bright emerald green eyes. "Ugh!" I inhaled deeply and let out a long sigh. The mixed emotions, the long trauma, Tristan? It all was so terribly stressful and confusing.
Lying down on my bed I gave up. As I shut my eyes finally nothing came to mind. All gone. The best part of it all was the deep sleep that came after.
Chapter 7
I could smell the bitter dark coffee when I woke up that morning. I slowly stumbled to my bathroom at the end of the hall, and brushed out my hair. I curled the ends, and hoping it would last the day sprayed it. Walking down stairs I stumbled on a piece of clothing. When I got into the kitchen I picked up the coffee cup, and added some french vanilla, creme, and sugar. I waved goodbye to my mom three bothers, and two little sisters. I had eight brothers and sisters in all, but my three older siblings were probably out of the house by now.
Dark. One word could say a lot. It was not dark that morning. It was pitch black. I tried not to notice. Not to notice anyone. I cursed under my breath. The only seat left was the one I would die if I had to take. Sitting on the floor would even be better. Green eyed boy was sitting in it. Every other seat already had two or more people occupying them. I wanted to kill myself. Obviously there was nothing I could do. If only it weren't the ironic things that made me want to die inside.
I slowly but surely pushed down the isle into the dark brown seat. I looked to the other side of the bus. I would try anything not to make eye contact with this mysterious boy. Even though I never looked, I could only just feel like I was being watched. With every move only the most uncomfortable thoughts came to mind. I was sitting next to green eyed boy, the one I finally stopped thinking about! OMG YAY!! Oops never mind I was thinking about him. A lot. Why? Oh why cruel world have you done this to me?! "Hey." .... "Hey!" He said in a deep voice that sounded so hot. "Uh hey?" I replied trying to sound like I didn't care less, when I really did. "Uh hi, we're at the school you know right?" He said. "If only I could kiss you" I said quietly. "WOAH! Uh yeah, I knew that..." I exclaimed. as I scooped up my bags and ran for it. Only one thing that I didn't expect as I sprinted for the school. The same deep voice, only this time in a laughing way.
Chapter 8
"Hey Grace!" I blurted out sprinting forward to meet her. "Hey.....Sophiaaaa?" She said in a annoying sort of way. "What's wrong?" I asked. I was truly concerned. "I was sort of wondering if we could not hang out...as much....anymore." "Uh...I don't know." I said. What did I do? Was it something I said? Maybe it was the way I acted on the phone? "Look," She said. "I don't want to be mean or anything, but I made a whole lot more friends, and they don't really know if I should be hanging out with you anymore.
Seeing as she obviously wasn't a real friend I made my way down the hallway without saying another word. I figured I might as well take a time out on her. I was still devastated. I tried to let this go for the rest of the day, but nothing I did seemed to work. It's those things that you hate the most, that are the hardest to get out of your head. Nothing I did would let it go. We were best friends... I thought.
I couldn't pay attention. Sadly enough, I failed the math test I had to take. The year was just horrible. So far I lost my best friend, the boy I loved hated me, and my brothers friend had turned out to be a creep. Great, and it was only the third week of school.
Chapter 9
"Maybe..." I said as I glanced over at Tristan sitting beside me. "Okay." He said as he slid out of the seat into another next to Britney Fulcherson. "Please, just tell me soon." He pleaded. I was actually considering it. A ninth grader had just asked me out. When does that happen? Well I guess today I thought as I headed into another mind trance. Officially weird.
When I got home I couldn't help but spill the news out to my mom. Her answer was one that would only be obvious. "Do you want to date him? If you do it's your choice Sophia, no one can make you do anything." I decided that if I said I said yes, and eventually didn't want to date him anymore then I could just tell him and we could break up. So the next morning on the bus ride I told him my final decision. His face was priceless.
