Special Eddie and the SoupQueens
play Act 1 scene 3 from a basement bar,
black flesh, silver metal, ‘A few chords
away from spinning the kind of gold
for memorial albums not up for awards
of tin-sprayed cups, with aluminium sparkle..’
but for a few coins, in the tin cup;
Alternative night: a beer, a meal, a stainless steel resolve,
’For your pleasure..’ Eddie reads, glad.
’For their bread, they mean.’ a SoupQueen adds,
neatly slipping her garter with Scopolamine,
‘The Devil’s Breath?’ says Eddie, ready to serve a clientèle
who wanted to pay nothing for their memories.
‘They won’t remember a thing!’ she sings.
‘Perhaps it’s for the best..’ Eddie says.
‘When all’s said and sung, they’d’ve wished
themselves dead, anyway, by the end of Act 1.’
‘I don’t want to kill anyone.’ a SoupQueen adds,
‘Let’s get this done and dusted; merchandise
by Wi-fi while we are on the run?’
Alternative night: ‘A few chords away
from spinning the kind of gold
for memorial albums not up for awards
of tin-sprayed cups with aluminium sparkle..’
but for a few coins, in the tin cup.
