THE SKUNK AND THE ORCA

a skunk strolled out one sunny day
upon the san francisco bay
the ocean breezes made him feel so free
he noticed movement on his right
and suddenly to his delight
he saw a creature playing in the sea
she looked like she enjoyed the game
her coloration much the same
as the little skunk boy's black and white
but as they traded silly grins
he noticed she had dorsal fins
it was a female orca in his sight
he wandered nearer to the shore
and swished his bushy tail once more
enticing her to swim up to the beach
she came in close as she could get
the skunk moved out and getting wet
they finally found a spot where they could reach
she smiled and winked her eye at him
and asked him if he'd like to swim
he told her that he didn't have the knack
she said, "if you have got the nerve
and if i promise not to swerve
i'll take you for a swim upon my back"
the skunk decided that was fine
and up he leapt upon her spine
and off they went across that splendid bay
and as they sped with style and grace
a steady, yet enthralling pace
the skunk and orca fell in love that day
although she couldn't come on land
he met her daily on the strand
and off they'd go propelling through the sea
throughout the summer, into fall
upon her shiny back, he'd crawl
and they were just as happy as can be
but then the bloom came off the rose
as often happens, i suppose
their love, once so alive, soon met its death
for though, it's true their love was blind
she thought his skunky smell unkind
and he'd begun to hate her fishy breath
